Panel That Awarded Pulitzers for Russiagate Stories Mum After Scathing Exposé on Reporting Failures

The panel that awarded Pulitzer Prizes to the New York Times and Washington Post for reporting related to the discredited Trump-Russia collusion narrative has gone mum as it faces new scrutiny following the publication of a four-part series in the Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) documenting the establishment media pillars’ lapses from their claimed journalistic standards.

The 19-member Pulitzer Prize board for 2017-2018 was comprised of various journalists, professors and writers, including several current or former staff members of the New York Times or Washington Post.

Just The News reached out to 13 members of the panel to find out if the CJR exposé had prompted second thoughts about the Russiagate prizes. Neil Brown, president of the Poynter Institute had an auto-reply set, saying he was out of the office, while Steve Coll, former dean of Columbia Journalism School, had an auto-reply saying he is on sabbatical. None of the other board members replied.

In response to a request for comment on the CJR series, Pulitzer Prize Administrator Majorie Miller wrote, “Due to pending litigation regarding these matters, I am not able to comment on the story.”

After the Pulitzer board initially stood by its Russigate awards, former President Donald Trump — the central target of the narrative, which grew out of opposition research commissioned by his 2016 opponent Hillary Clinton — filed a defamation lawsuit against them in December, following a request to reconsider the prizes.

Statement by Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America: The Pulitzer Board should have long ago rescinded awards given to the Washington Compost (known to some as the Washington Post) & the Failing NY Times for their fake stories on the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax. However, Pulitzer refuses to do the right thing! The Hoax has now been further exposed by the devastating, irrefutable piece in the Columbia Journalism Review, and Pulitzer has no comment. I am suing the Pulitzer Board to set the record straight and continue fighting for TRUTH in America!

Hosts ‘Growing Frustrated’ As CNN Sees Worst Ratings Week in Nine Years

It’s not news, necessarily, that CNN is not keeping up with the post-Trump administration times we live in — despite a change in course directed by new boss Chris Licht following a merger between CNN’s parent company and Discovery. But when tanking ratings continue to sink to levels not seen in nearly a decade, there’s bound to be some talk of whether the network is salvageable at all.

Enter a new dispatch from TheWrap noting CNN “notched its lowest ratings in nine years across all its day parts for the week of Jan. 16 through Jan. 22, 2023,” per ratings data from Nielsen: “just 444,000 viewers in primetime, 93,000 in the all-important age 25-54 news demographic and 417,000 in viewers and 80,000 in the demo for total day.”

As TheWrap noted, last week was “the first time since May 2014” that saw CNN stay below 450,000 viewers. And it’s not like there was a industry-wide dip in viewers last week. It turns out Fox News Channel, the leader in cable news for almost too many consecutive weeks to track at this point, had 1.4 million total viewers and 176,000 in the 25-54 demographic during the same timeframe. Their primetime shows brought in two million viewers and 256,000 in the 25-54 range.

@realDonaldTrump on Truth Social

The Mark Pomerantz book absolutely KILLS the Fake “Case” against me which had been looked at by the Manhattan D.A. I actually believe that I will be treated fairly, and that the many lies and innuendos made by disbarred & discredited witnesses have FAILED. Even the head of the Major Economic Crimes Unit quit because she didn’t want to prosecute me based on the weak evidence and also, I hear, the Statute of limitations, which has long ago expired. This is why Cy Vance never brought it. Thank you!
